Honour those who have sacrificed

As we approach the launch of a new album, I am reminded of the importance of a day that might not get the attention that it deserves this year.

With increased focus and precautions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, let’s do what we can to ensure Remembrance Day does not get lost in the buzz of lives that we get to enjoy because of the sacrifice that the day is intended to honour.

Although I hope that one day war will only exist as a distant memory, the fact remains that people still die fighting for their rights and for the rights of others.

Song of Heaven on the Cluster Stars album was written, in part, to help surviving veterans to be able to tell their stories. Anyone impacted directly or indirectly by PTSD has experienced the impact of stories both told and not told. Through the telling and re-telling of these stories, a path towards hope can be found. We honour every story. Residential school survivors and survivors of holocaust, war and persecution have more than untold stories and trauma in common – they are joined by the common thread of survival.

On Remembrance Day, attend a ceremony, wear a poppy, join a legion, thank a veteran. Honour those who have sacrificed in your own way.

Thank you to all of the veterans who suffered so that we could enjoy the gift of freedom.
