Families are hatched and nurtured with love and commitment

There are different interpretations about the meaning of each gift mentioned in the song, 12 Days of Christmas.

The gift of “six geese a-laying”, for example, is reputed to be about the six days in creation, when the world was “hatched”. That’s one of the interpretations.

The annual migration of geese flying south for the winter is one of the most beautiful sights and sounds in Canada. It’s just as iconic and special when they return in the spring to build their nests, hatch their young and raise a family.

Geese are extremely loyal to their families. They mate for life and are highly protective of their partners and offspring. If a goose’s mate or chicks become sick or injured, he or she will often refuse to leave their side, even if winter is approaching and the other geese in the group are flying south.

I share this with you while reflecting on another very special family that I featured in my blog earlier this year. You can read about the wonderful relationship between my long-time friend and his lovely daughter here, as well as listen to the song she inspired, Little Angel, on the Aurora 12 album. Enjoy!

(This is the sixth of a daily 12-part blog series offering positive and inclusive messages throughout the festive season, along with songs from Sandra's newly released Christmas album, Aurora 12. Catch up on previous posts by visiting Sandra's blog.)
